Interview The director of "The New Year That Never Came," a tragicomic chronicle of the final hours of Nicolae Ceausescu's dictatorial regime in Romania in 1989, drew on his own childhood memories. The film opens in theaters this Wednesday, April 30.
Bodgan Muresanu Because I experienced the revolution firsthand. I was only 15, but I remember it perfectly. I was demonstrating in the streets of Bucharest with my mother and sister, 24 hours before Ceausescu [in power since 1965] fled in full view of the world. There were a lot of people, a lot of tension in the air. People showed their hostility to the regime in absolute silence. It was very strange.
